Dog licenses need to be renewed every year with the Town Clerk. Dogs must have up to date rabies shots to renew a license, this is a New York State Agriculture & Markets Law. The dog must wear a license identification tag which should be affixed on the collar of the dog at all times.
Town of Middleburgh has a leash law in effect. When you are walking your dog, it must be on a leash and under your control. Otherwise, you must have your dog on your property. When walking your dog you must pick up any feces when it is on someone else's property or the street. If your dog is tied on your property, you must have adequate shelter and food and water.
It is unlawful to keep a dog found along the road or on someone else's property. Please refer to Agricultural & Markets Law section 366 for further consideration. Call the local DCO or the Sheriff's Office to report dog related issues. Every town has a Dog Control Officer.
Refer to local Town Laws for additional details.
